Facebook Developer Garage Indonesia
Tepat sepekan yang lalu, 28 Maret 2009, Think.Web dan FreSh untuk pertama kalinya menggelar Facebook Developer Garage Indonesia (FDGI) di FX Lifestyle X’nter – Atrium – Lt.3
FDGI ini merupakan sebuah acara komunitas yang ditujukan bukan hanya untuk para programmer tetapi juga bagi para Designer, Flasher, Strategist, atau Marketer yang ingin mengetahu lebih banyak mengenai pendayagunaan Facebook.
Facebook Developer Garage sebelumnya juga telah diadakan di kota-kota besar lain di seluruh dunia seperti misalnya di London, Toronto, Dubai, Barcelona, Milan, dsb.
Diluar dugaan, peserta yang mendaftarkan diri membludak sampai akhirnya panitia memutuskan untuk memindahkan venue agar dapat menampung peserta yang mencapai lebih dari 250 orang pada saat acara berlangsung.
Sayang sekali pihak Facebook yang sebelumnya berniat untuk menghadiri acara ini, tidak bisa datang dan hanya mengirimkan sebuah video sambutan khusus untuk para peserta FDGI yang bisa di view disini.
Materi yang disampaikan dalam FDGI ini juga cukup lengkap. Peserta dapat memperoleh ilmu baru tentang Facebook dari bermacam sisi. Dibuka dengan FDGI Introduction, presentasi dilanjutkan dengan sharing penggunaan Facebook dalam dunia musik, kemudian penjelasan teknis mengenai pembuatan dan penggunaan aplikasi Facebook serta diakhiri dengan tentang how we can monetize it.
Acara ditutup dengan sebuah tantangan bagi para peserta FDGI agar membuat aplikasi yang keren dan bermanfaat untuk memenangkan sebuah Notebook. Info terbaru mengenai kontes ini dapat dilihat dalam Facebook group “Facebook Developers Indonesia“.
Berikut adalah beberapa point yang disampaikan oleh kelima narasumber tersebut:
First Presentation : Daniel Tumiwa (Djarum/Music Business Enthusiast) – An Open Invitation
- FB : A Fad, Trend, Culture? If FB is a Trend, then FB Apps are Fads
- Content is King and Application are content to FB
- For Marketers/Advertisers : Application Content is the actual Content
- Multiple Application means more content; Multiple Content means more Dialogue
- Community : Social Group of any size whose members reside in a specific locality, share government, and often have a common cultural and historical heritage
- Careful when building communities
- Mindset : Develop Application that enhance communities
- Congregate : To bring together in a group, crowd or assembly and to gather
- Advertisers need ideas, an agenda, meeting appointment, event calendar, and on going 2 way dialogs
- Advertisers want a original long tail story, rock n roll developers, smart and witty personalities, do no evil minds
- Advertisers must have : multiple ideas as ammunition, multiple agendas, multiple meeting appointments, multiple event calendar, multiple channels for dialogue
- Considerations : an extension an event
- Warning : content updating
- Reality : Indonesian App Developers still need to shine and in the end can make money
- Aspiration : make money
- Application is not always be an extention of an offline event, but the offline event is a good promotion for the application
- User experience is the reason why lots of FS user moving to FB

- FB Platform : Is it a Operating System for social networking? YES

- Strategy : Guiding principles, App should be meaningful/ trustworthy/ well-designed,
- Jay Goldman’s short list : Create Value, Help users communicate and share more effeciently, generate more meaningfull activity, provide valuable information for users Integration Points (canvas Page, Profile box, info sections, requests, notifications, attchments & the publishers, news feed, tabs, application menu, application directory).

- Go to facebook.com/developers, follow the step there, download FB sources and upload php client library to the server
- To update status via ur application, u should set permission for user . status update as True, Offline Access as True
- Batasan user profile, mobile application (still not yet)

- FB Connect function : simplify form registration, one registration for all sites
- What is FB connect : Integrate FB platform to ur site, connect to other friend, sharing info
- What can we get from FB Connect :
1. FB connect in conherence with FB Privacy,
2. use the same FB API
3. Publish to FB status feed,
4. comment integration,
5. photo sharing,
6. external site may retrieve user public data - FB Connect with Sites - several plugin for CMS : movable, wp, drupal, joomla

- FB Connect Ideas : make ur blog more social, microblogging, brand microsite, hotspot WIFI login, FB Connect & Google Maps, online games, live chat, iphone FB connect
- FB Connect with widgets : several social media apps that utilize FB Connect
Fifth Presentation : Andy Santoso – FB Apps : Real Money for Developer?
- If developers do not get anything by buiding FB Apps, so why they build it?
- There is a demand from the market, but limited resources
- The money can be from :
1. Selling Ads,
2. eCommerce,
3. Selling Virtual Gift/Credits,
4. Premium Content Subcription,
5. Entertainment Portal,
6. Affiliate Program,
7 Selling your Apps,
8. Sponsorship - Mechanism to interest advertisers :
1. create a great apps,
2. embed with third party for sites,
3. let many user join n like the application,
4. start hoping they click the ads - provide app that can help FB user buying their credit for playing online
- Challege : secure, must collaborate with game online company, application pages has low Click Through Rate
- How to start :
1. read the guide,

3. start n try create the simple one,
4. learn ur user behaviours,
5. maintain & grow,
6. find a partner, create a team, work together
